Tess O
About Me
Hi, my name is Tess, and I currently attend UC Santa Cruz, where I play intercollegiate basketball. I love to read, write, and do art, and I also play a little bit of ukulele (I mainly do it because my dog loves it). I enjoy tutoring because I love giving students the opportunity to reach their full potential, helping them develop confidence and making them feel more welcome and comfortable in an academic setting.
Education
University of California, Santa Cruz - 2023

Academic Accolades
Named Coast to Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Women’s Basketball 2022-2023, received Regents Scholarship to attend UC Santa Cruz, where I now attend with a 4.0 GPA, named California Community College Athletic Association’s Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, and named Glendale College Student of Distinction.
Tutoring Experience
I have a lot of experience tutoring high school students one-on-one in both an in-person and online setting, and I was also an embedded writing tutor for my literature professor at my last college, helping college students with essay-writing. Additionally, I have coached a broad range of age groups, from six year olds at a summer camp, to 12th graders on a high school basketball team.
Philanthropy / Volunteering Experience
I have volunteered to coach a lot of girls basketball teams because I feel sports are a valuable tool in developing a sense of community, teaching the importance of commitment and hard work, and in giving young people an opportunity to develop a passion. As a female athlete myself, I have first-hand experience in how women's sports are underrepresented and overlooked, and I want to do everything I can to remind girls that what they are doing is important, and that they deserve just as much time and attention as any other program. I want to help them see their own strength, their own value, and I want to show them that they matter.
