More About Me

I love working with people because I think that everyone’s story is so unique and important. Although tutoring is geared towards the tutor teaching the student, I believe that the experience teaches the tutor just as much! I have enjoyed learning from and getting to know the students I have worked with.

I also know the feeling of being so lost in class that you don’t know where to begin. My goal as a tutor is to help you get past that so you can crush those assignments. I am a big proponent of learning by doing because it is a great way to make sure the material sticks. This makes things a lot easier on test day! Thus, I will not be giving you the answer to problems, BUT I will be there with you step by step to help you get to that answer on your own (because you can do it!). I also want to foster a comfortable environment in my tutoring sessions where students feel they can ask anything. It is OK to make mistakes — in fact, they’re encouraged! They help you learn, and a tutoring session is the perfect time to make them. Plus, I make mistakes all the time, so don’t worry! 🙂

What to Expect in a Session:

Hi! My name is Anysa.

Some random things about me are that I think the ocean is pretty much the coolest but also creepiest thing ever, I enjoy learning about how to live a more sustainable and environmentally friendly life, and my favorite type of candy is super dark dark chocolate. I can’t wait to meet you and learn some of your random facts! Check out my video and written paragraphs below for more information!

University of California, Davis - 2021

Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior; Minors: Psychology, Global & International Studies

Academic Accolades:

I recently graduated from UC Davis with a GPA of 3.958, maintaining a spot on the Dean’s Honors list for 11 of the 12 quarters I attended UCD. Upon admission to the university, I was kindly offered a spot in the University Honors Program, which accepts only a small percentage of top applicants. I graduated within this program, completing an Honors Thesis which sought to understand the social cognition of children with autism spectrum disorder. I am currently pursuing a publication on this work. High School Information: AP scores -- Human Geography (5), English Language Arts (5), Calculus BC (4), United States History (4), Environmental Science (4), United States Government and Politics (4). Graduated in top 3% of 500+ student class.

Tutoring Experience

I tutored peers and ELL students during my freshman year of high school, worked with elementary school students from my senior year through the following summer on a weekly basis, and recently, I have been tutoring college students online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, I have experience tutoring both online and in person, and I have worked with students of all ages. More informally, I have volunteered as a summer camp leader for multiple years where I worked with and taught short lesson plans to children. I am also someone that my peers in class go to for help on assignments. I currently do research that involves working with children with autism spectrum disorder, and I have studied ADHD in school. I am open to learning more about how to work with these individuals in an academic setting.

Philanthropy / Volunteering Experience

I served on the core start-up team for a church near my university where I assisted with a variety of events. My main role was to lead a team of other volunteers. I was also a volunteer intern for the UC Davis Athletics department where I helped promote games and foster a unifying sense of school spirit. In high school, I coordinated and participated in numerous community service events, such as canned food drives, blood drives, and Pennies for Patients. I also created the first cross-campus holiday celebration at Choices Transitional Services for disabled adults, and I have helped out at multiple church summer camps as well as iCan Bike summer camps. Volunteering is a big passion of mine -- it is such a great way to get exposure to a wide variety of fields.

Thank you Anysa for tutoring both my kids in middle school’s math. Anysa is organized and we love that she plans ahead before each tutoring session by inquiring our needs for the week. She also communicates clearly after each tutoring session to let us know what the kids are working on or struggling with. She is very welcoming and encouraging, which helps my kids to open up and asks questions. We are thankful to connect with Anysa thru the My Private Professor team.
