About Me

My name is Amanda, and I am a tutor with over ten years of personal and professional experience. I love tutoring because it allows me to work one-on-one with a student at their pace. My favorite moments are the times when something that has been confusing finally makes sense and I’ve able to help bring about that moment of clarity. In my downtime, my hobbies include reading, creative writing, video games, comic books, and cross stitch embroidery.

Education

Vanguard University of Southern California - 2013

Bachelor of Arts, Major in Psychology, Minor in English

Academic Accolades

Graduated university summa cum laude, psychology department. Member of the Psi Chi Honors Society. Dean's List for Academic Excellence for maintaining a 3.9 GPA in university. Received the Shirley Albertson Owens Academic Excellence in Psychology Award. Graduated valedictorian from my high school.

Tutoring Experience

I am currently working as a private tutor for students between the ages of 12 and 16, and I have been since 2019. Before that, I worked at my university's Writing Center as a tutor. I also frequently assist my younger brother, who is still in high school, with his homework and provide editing services for friends and family who are pursuing degrees at different levels of university.

Philanthropy / Volunteering Experience

I completed over 200 hours of community service during high school. This primarily came from helping one of the local churches host a free meal to the homeless and low income residents of our city once a week (no church attendance or religious belief required). Other hours were spent at the library, shelving books and contributing to the children's summer reading program.
