Tutoring Experience

I have over two years of both in-person and online tutoring experience with a variety of subjects and grade levels. In 2022, I was hired as a private tutor with virtual platform, where I tutored grades 4-12 in math and science, including AP Exam preparation (AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, and AP Biology) and college essay writing. Each week, I crafted detailed lesson plans that targeted each of my student’s specific learning styles. Since February, I’ve been working as a Biology Curriculum Developer and Mentor at the Science Mentorship Institute (Sci-MI), a volunteer-dependent, nonprofit organization. At Sci-MI, I help develop fun, interactive, and engaging biology curriculum plans for a six-week mentorship program targeted towards underserved high school students. I also supervise and guide students through each of their research projects and lead small group discussions, empowering the next generation of budding scientists!

Philanthropy / Volunteering Experience

As a sophomore in high school, I was a Mattel Youth Ambassador at the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. Over the course of the year, I individually fundraised $2,500 in support of the children at the hospital. I also engaged in physician round table discussions to explore the medical field and expand my knowledge of the healthcare environment. Throughout high school, I was also a part of the KIWIN’S club, through which I fulfilled over 250 hours of community service work. During my sophomore year, I also served as the club secretary and helped organize numerous volunteering events, such as triathlon clean-ups, beach and garden clean-ups, and charity drives. Since last summer, I have been a volunteer at the local hospital and animal shelter in my home town, and I have accumulated over 200 hours in each of these endeavors. At the animal shelter, I supervise a safe space for cats and kittens that need medical or behavior resources; at the hospital, I volunteer in both the ICU and ER.
