More About Me
In my spare time I enjoy playing the violin, hiking, reading (ask me for book recommendations!), and writing. I’m also bilingual and love to translate contemporary Russian short stories into English. As a tutor, my main goal is to teach my students confidence. I strive to teach every student I work with that their ideas are valid and meaningful. My goal is not just to work on a student’s test scores or skills, but to make them a better learner who is able to tackle tasks independently.
Undergraduate University: Columbia University
Year of Graduation: 2022
Majors/Minors/Specialization: English, minor in Russian Literature and Language
Year of Graduation:
I have made the Dean's List all three semesters of attendance during my time at Columbia University. My cumulative college GPA is a 3.96 (my most recent semester, it was a 4.12). I scored a 35 on the ACT, and of the two times I took it my best subscores were a 36 in English, a 33 in Math, a 35 in Science, and a 36 in Reading. I scored a 5 on the AP Art History, European History, and Literature exams. I am also on the editorial board for the Columbia Review, Columbia's undergraduate literary magazine, and serve as secretary for the Birch, Columbia's nationally distributed journal for Eastern European and Slavic Studies.
I have been tutoring consistently for the past three years, primarily working on English/Verbal ACT, SAT, and SSAT/ISEE/SHSAT preparation in the greater New York City area with students in grades 7-12. I also have experience working on overarching study skills, literary analysis, and essay writing and have worked with students for whom English is a second language focusing on reading comprehension and general literacy. When I began tutoring I also tutored pre-calculus and ACT math for one year. Additionally, I assisted teaching at a Russian immersion camp for two years and worked with ages 5-12.
Philanthropy / Volunteering Experience
I have volunteered with several local organizations in my hometown to teach violin and conduct orchestra rehearsals in schools that lacked funding for music education programs. I also volunteer consistently at a food bank through God's Love We Deliver in New York City. I have also volunteered as a translator and copywriter.
