Sona is grateful for the experiences & opportunities through which she was able to fine-tune her ability to help others achieve scholastic success through patience, discipline, & dedication.
Sona first started tutoring when she was in 5th grade, helping younger students in her neighborhood with math or English. Throughout middle school & high schools, she helped classmates & students in lower grade levels with their classes & helped coordinate a free peer-to-peer tutoring program at her school.
She passed every AP exam that she took & earned a top score on the SAT through self-study. Sona served in a number of leadership positions in high school career, including President of California Scholarship Federation, Vice President of National Honor Society, & Vice President of Peer Support. She served as the Youth Representative for the American Red Cross & volunteered at many other nonprofit organizations. She applied to numerous merit-based scholarships & was grateful to be awarded over $6,000 collectively. Sona graduated from high school with a 4.0 GPA & earned admission into every college to which she applied, including Stanford.
She attended UCLA with the benefit of scholarships & graduated with a 3.9 GPA, earning distinctions of summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, College Honors, & Dean’s Honor list. Sona served as President of Golden Key National Honor Society & Vice President of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. As an undergraduate Teaching Assistant, research assistant, & college lecture-note taker, Sona honed her ability to break down complex concepts verbally & in writing to her peers.
After earning a top score on the LSAT, Sona applied to law school & was grateful to be accepted into many esteemed institutions, including University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Duke, Georgetown, NYU, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, UCLA, & USC. She attended UC Berkeley School of Law, where she served as the Senior Articles Editor of the Berkeley Women’s Law Journal, Articles Editor of the Berkeley International Law Journal, & Treasurer of the Asian Pacific-American Law Students Association. Sona volunteered at the nonprofit Building Opportunities for Self Sufficiency, served as an intern at the ACLU, & clerked for a Chief Magistrate Judge.
Sona has shared her strategies for tackling the admissions process for college & graduate programs with countless friends, parents, & clients, & helped students get into top institutions such as Harvard Business School, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Northwestern, UCLA, UC Hastings School of Law, & others.
After practicing civil litigation for a number of years, Sona returned to something that truly fulfilled her: tutoring. As demand grew for her tutoring services for standardized exams, K-12 subjects, & college counseling, she founded My Private Professor with a mission to provide top-notch, individualized tutoring to students in all grade levels & exams.
Every tutor on our team is someone with whom Sona would trust tutoring her own children. We accept only the best because we expect only the best.
